Kenya: Britak Hits Fresh All-Time Low At Bourse

    The NSE20 month fell 49.83 points to close at 3185.71, the third successive 2011 and 23 month closing low. The Nairobi all Share retreated 0.58 points to close at 67.28. KenGen and Britak closed at all time lows.

    Access Kenya sits just 20 cents above its all time low. EABL bucked the trend to close +1.23% Eaagads rallied 4.96% after releasing its first half earnings. Market Cap was 858.697b versus 866.156b. Equity Turnover was 132.32m versus 58.679m.

    In Agriculture

    Eaagads reported H1 2011 earnings pre market opening. Eaagads rallied 4.96% to close at 37.00 and traded 3,000 shares.

    In Commercial and Services

    Safaricom traded fifth and closed unchanged at 2.80 with 3.049m shares traded. The buy and sell side are evenly matched or close enough. Access Kenya fell 6.54% to close at 5.00 and traded 1.157m shares. Access Kenya has fallen 62.96% in 2011 Kenya Airways could not hold onto its gains and fell 5.882% to close at 20.00 and traded 114,200 shares. Nation Media closed 2.857% lower at 136.00 and traded 45,500 shares. Standard Group was the biggest gainer rallying 6.542% to close at 28.50 on just 500 shares. Car and General was the biggest faller in today’s Session and retreated 9.09% to close at 22.50 on just 300 shares.

    Among Banks

    Barclays Bank was the most active share at the Securities Exchange. Barclays Bank eased 0.83% to close at 12.00 and traded 2.476m shares worth 29.713m. Barclays Bank has traded a 10.40-18.00 range over the last 12 Months. Barclays rallied 43.601% 3rd October through 1st November but has subsequently retreated 20.79% November 1 through today.

    Kenya Commercial Bank traded third. KCB eased 1.32% to close at 14.95 and traded a 14.80-15.10 range and 802,700 shares worth 11.999m. Kenya Commercial Bank rallied 24.745% October 19th through 2nd November. Equity Bank traded second at the Exchange today. Equity Bank eased 0.28% to close at 17.90 and traded a 17.55-18.00 range and traded 1.281m shares worth 22.934m.

    Equity Bank Equity Bank rallied 17.647% October 13 through 1st November. Equity Bank has now given back 69.98% of that rally. CFC StanBic eased 1.19% to close at 41.50 and traded 18,600 shares. COOP Bank retreated 2.734% to close at 12.45 and traded 268,100 shares. Stanchart closed a shilling lighter at 169.00 and traded 6,500 shares.

    British American Britak closed 1% lower at a fresh all time closing low of 4.95 with 84,900 shares traded. Investors in the IPO, have lost 45% of their stake in very short order.

    In Industrial and Allied

    EABL firmed 1.23% to close at 164.00 and traded a 164.00-169.00 range and 20,000 shares KenGen slumped 5.58% to close at 8.45 and traded 745,900 shares. This is an all time closing low and Kengen also traded 8.10 in today’s session which is an all time intra day low. KenGen has fallen 47.35% in 2011. KPLC eased 1.13% to close at 17.40 and traded 114,000 shares.

    Athi River Mining traded fourth. ARM eased 1.96% to close at 150.00 and traded 76,900 shares worth 11.536m. Portland ticked 3.571% lower to close at 54.00 and traded 400 shares. Bamburi Cement closed 1.31% lower at 150.00
