Two Chinese nationals are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday for allegedly contravening Section 49 of the Immigration Act, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

A man, 53, and a woman, 47, were found in possession of a haul of passports, University of South Africa (Unisa) certificates and immigration documents on Thursday, said Captain Dennis Adriao.

Some of these were genuine, while others appeared to be forged. Some of the documents were suspected stolen goods.

The documents found included 101 new Chinese passports, four South African identity books, 1100 stamped and signed Unisa certificates and temporary South African residence permits, Adriao said.

Police were working closely with the department of home affairs in the investigation, he said. – Sapa
