Giant killers Tanzania have vowed to pick up full points in their London 2012 Olympic Games second leg qualifier with Nigeria in Benin City in a fortnight.
Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen was left to rue missed chances after the U-23 team lost 1-0 to Tanzania in Sunday’s clash at the National Stadium, Dare es Salaam.
Speaking after the game, Tanzania coach Jamhuri Kihwelu, who criticised his midfield for struggling throughout the match, said he would correct his team’s mistakes ahead of the trip to Nigeria.
“That was our Achilles heel, but we’ll work on it and hopefully we’ll win in Abuja (Benin),” Kihwelu was quoted as saying by The Citizen on Monday.
But Eguavoen, who was helpless as his side missed clear-cut chances despite imposing themselves in the game, promised his team would deal with the East Africans in Benin.
“We were the better side, but we lost the match. I promise a 5-0 win two weeks later,” he said.
Norway-based Nosa Igiebor regretted he and his colleagues underrated the Tanzanians. He however assured that the story would be different in the second leg.
Tanzania sent Sydney 2000 Olympics gold medallists Cameroon and Barcelona ’92 Olympics bronze medallists Ghana as well as Egypt packing from the race to the London Games.
