The game, which is dubbed, “Michael Essien Africa XI Vs World XI Charity Game” and arranged by Pure Persona, will see an African select side battle an Ashley Cole-led World side for supremacy.
Essien, in an interview with yesterday revealed that the gathering of the ‘giants’ is to create awareness about peace, especially on the African continent. Apart from the stars such Malouda, Cole, Drogba, Mensah, Adebayor and Pirlo, he noted that “a lot of big stars are coming for the game.”
According to reports, plans have been put in place for series of activities to make the event a huge success. The Chelsea star is expected to arrive at the Kotoka International Airport with the other stars today for the big game.
Essien and the other members of the Black Stars will move to camp after the ceremonial match to prepare for their Nations Cup qualifier against Congo Brazzaville on June 3 in Kumasi. The midfielder returns to the national team after putting on hold his career after a protracted injury.
“Don’t expect much from me in the June 3 game, I will play my normal game, but it will be a great game,” was his response to what Ghanaians should expect from him on June 3.
