Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan has been re-elected for a second term on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He polled 525,793 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Chief Great Ogboru of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), who secured 433,834 votes in Tuesday’s gubernatorial election. Chief Ovie Omo-Agege, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate polled 15,526 votes.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Abhuliemen Anao, who announced the result at about 10:10 a.m. yesterday said that Uduaghan scored a minimum of 25 per cent of votes cast in 21 of the 25 local government areas in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that while agents of other political parties, who participated in the election signed the result sheet, Mr Fred Olokor, the DPP’s agent, refused to sign.
He said the result was not acceptable to the party.
The result showed that the PDP secured majority votes in 13 council areas, while DPP won in the remaining 12 councils.
Uduaghan got the highest votes in Warri South Local Government Area, polling 65,508 as against 22,585 votes recorded by DPP.
Similarly, Ogboru received the highest votes of 54,611 in Ethiope East Local Government, his council area.
The results of the state House of Assembly polls in 21 of the 29 constituencies released by INEC, PDP secured 13 seats, DPP seven and ACN, one.
The results of the rescheduled six House of Representatives election in the state have also been released.
Nicholas Mutu, Ndudi Elumelu and Leo Ogor, all PDP candidates, were re-elected as representatives of Bomadi/Patani, Aniocha/Oshimili and Isoko constituencies respectively.
Mrs Evelyn Ojakovo (PDP) picked the Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie ticket, Chief Sunny Emeyese, also of PDP was elected to represent Ethiope constituency, while the Ndokwa/Ukwuani seat went to Dr Olisa Imegwu of DPP.
The result of the election in Ika federal constituency, which was withheld by INEC following some controversy was also released yesterday. Mr Victor Nwokolo of the Accord Party was declared winner.
