Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola yesterday approved N153 million loan to farmers.
One thousand, four hundred and fifty eight farmers under 65 cooperative societies benefited from the gesture, tagged: “Quick Impact Intervention Programme on Agriculture.”
The beneficiaries will get between N500,000 and N3 million.
Handing over the cheque to the Managing Director of the Bank of Agricultural Development, Dr. Mohammed Turaki, Aregbesola urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money.
He said his administration had acquired 30 hectares for mechanised farming across the 30 local governments.
The governor assured farmers that the state government would buy and market their products.
Aregbesola said his government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Railway Corporation, would transport their farm produce at no cost.
He said the government would soon establish an international food market in Osogbo, the state capital.
