Born into the Ojomu Royal Family in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, Hon. Hazeez Babajide Akinloye is a legal practitioner who joined politics to improve the lives of his people at Eti-Osa Federal constituency 1. A two time member of Lagos Assembly, he is now going for higher responsibility. He is vying for a place under the umbrella of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the House of Representatives.

Some would want to argue that today, especially in the state, only few people know what members of the state Assembly do. What does your job entails?

As a legislature, you have three main functions. The function of law making, which include the process of passing laws and arguing at the floors of the house about what affects the populace on the day to day affairs, mostly done under the matter of urgent public importance. The second one is the aspect of oversight function, checking the executive, making sure what they are doing is in tandem with what has been passed in the budget and seeing that those things they say they would do they are doing them. The third one is the aspect of representation, representing the people, letting government know what and what the problems of the constituency are.

So far I can say that I’ve played my part .Although, the problems are so enormous that you can’t say you can do everything . But I can readily tell you today that the government is aware of the problems being faced by the people of Etio-Osa Constituency. And steps have been taken in some cases to proffer solution to these problems. When I was coming into the house in 2003, you could count by your finger tips what was the presence of government in my constituency.

In the whole of that constituency, we had four secondary schools before I was elected. Now, we have eight secondary schools. If you go to Eti-Osa, you will see that we’re really doing a lot of the roads in Lekki phase 1. Villages like Ikate Eleguishi, Osapa, Agudi, Ikota, Badore, Ajah, Ogonbo, Okun Ajah, you will discover that their roads are tarred now. You have massive drainage being done at Mayegun and Ikota. The perennial flooding problems that is associated with that terrain is a thing of the past. We now have an approval to construct general hospital in that area.

Your tenure will soon expire, what are your plans now?

Now, I want to move to the House of Representatives, I’ve been given the party ticket to represent Eti-Osa at the federal level. My own focus in the federal House are mainly two issues. That is, the issue of electricity and the environmental problem.
