Honourable Ahmed Ipoola Omisore, represents Ifako Ijaiye constituency 11, which is in Ojokoro area of Lagos. He is the current chairman of Committee on Information, Strategy and Security. He was an advertising professional before he was elected into the Lagos House of Assembly. He was once the Chairman of Alakuko Community Development Association.
How did you get into politics, what was your motivation?
I thought of diversifying my talent. I was the first Vice Chairman of Ojokoro community development council and I discovered that voluntary contribution to community development was wanning, I thought the best thing to do was to go into government and effect development in my area by joining governance and that was why I got into politics. So far so good, it has been worthwhile because my community has seen development in the last four years. Ojokoro is a border town with Ogun State, lacks infrastructure and I’m glad that in the last 42 months, I’ve been able to attract at least not less than 12 road construction projects to the area, some are completed, some are in progress. Areas that were flooded have been taken care of. As at today, we have mini-water works plants commissioned by Governor Raji Fashola . We have youth centers now and recently the foundation was laid for women vocational training center inside Meiran Housing Estate and all things that have come during my own time. This makes me to be proud that I have been able to touch their lives. Out of my salary as a legislator, I have been able to spend some money to touch the lives of my people. I introduced computer training for youths. I spent about 10million naira to give them motorcycle, hair dryer, grinding pepper machine, barbing saloon kits, generators and a lot of other things. I equally assist police in the community. I gave the police station computer. I bought generating set and stationeries for the police.
I helped quite a number of people but sad enough, as at last week, I have about 410 unemployed graduates in my constituency alone. That is quite frightening so when next I come back by the grace of God, I want to pay more attention to the area of youth employment. I want to spread my dragnet to private sector, I want to use my connection to reach the companies to seek job opportunities for my youth because I still have so many of them unemployed.
Now, I have their telephone numbers so that I can easily reach them and intimate them on what is going on.
Now that you are going back what are those things you are likely to do?
My going back is to complete all the projects I started like the roads. Many roads are uncompleted. Since I initiated them, I’m in the best position to make sure they are completed.
