The Premier League giants’ endless spending spree is said to be fuelled by Roman Abramovich’s burning desire to bring home the elusive Champions League trophy.

Aguero, who has scored an impressive 12 goals in 24 matches this season for Atleti, represents an attractive proposition to the Stamford Bridge club as they seek to cut a number of ageing stars such as Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda.
