    Cink: hoping to shine again

Two of 2009’s major winners will be playing in the PGA Tour’s second string event this week – the Puerto Rico Open.

While the world’s top 50 contest the WGC-Cadillac Championship in Miami, 2009 Masters winner Angel Cabrera and 2009 Open champ Stewart Cink will be looking to boost their rankings with a big performance at the Trump International Golf Club in Rio Grande.

Cink has dropped to 59th in the world while Cabrera is down at 83 after both men remain winless since their major triumphs of two years ago.

Also lining up in Puerto Rico is Henrik Stenson, another player who hit the heights in 2009 when winning the Players Championship at Sawgrass, a tournament often regarded as the ‘fifth’ major.

“I’ve been struggling golf-wise for the last 12 months or so and also last year I had some health issues,” said the Swede, who hasn’t had a top 10 since finishing third in the Open at St Andrews.

“That obviously doesn’t help if you’re playing sick and playing poorly, but I hope it’s only one way from here on – and that’s up.”

    Odds

Sky Bet expect Cink to go best of the former high-flying trio and make him 16/1 second favourite to win the trophy and end his drought.

Cabrera, whose 21-year-old son Federico is also in the field, is 33/1 while Stenson is 28s.

The favourite is in-form Jerry Kelly, who played some excellent golf to finish third in last week’s Honda Classic.

Kelly is also something of a course specialist having finished second and ninth in his two starts at Trump International.

Others hoping to find some form at the 7,569 yard par 72 include England’s Oliver Wilson and former Masters champ Mike Weir.
