The police in Zaria, Kaduna State have confirmed the arrest of 12 people in connection with Monday’s protest by some youths over power outage and the lack of potable water in the area.
The Police Area Commander for Zaria, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday that most of those who participated in the protest were Almajiri (street urchins) who were motivated by some unidentified individuals.
NAN reports that some protesting youths spilled into the streets and blocked the main road linking Zaria city with other parts of the town for several hours over alleged nine months of blackout and the lack of water in the area.
