The Mamprusis, one of the feuding factions in the Bawku chieftaincy conflict, have written to the Bawku Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) seeking permission to celebrate the Damba festival slated for February 26.

The Council, in response to the letter, went into a closed door meeting to find a suitable way of handling matters arising from the letter.

It issued a letter to the Mamprusis and is expecting a reply before any decision is taken, the Municipal Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kweku Boadu Peppreh, told the GNA on Wednesday.

He said MUSEC had asked the Mamprusis to hold on with their preparations while it studied the security situation on the ground to see if it would be safe to celebrate so as not to disturb the relative peace being enjoyed in the area.

Commenting on the security situation in the area, ACP Peppreh said Bawku is calm for social and economic activities and that there was no cause for alarm.

He commended the people in the area for complying with security orders and obeying the laws of the land.
