AFAGLeading members of the pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) have warned of a possible clash with members of any group who attempt countering their intended demonstration on Wednesday, January 26.
Members of AFAG last week announced their intention of embarking on a peaceful demonstration, dubbed Ahokyere, over recent hikes in petroleum prices. However, another group, Movement for a Better Ghana have told Citi News, it will organise a counter demonstration on the same day of AFAG’s intended demonstration.
The head of Operations of AFAG, Samuel Awuku in an interview with Citi News warned that any group that attempts to disrupt their demonstration will be dealt with appropriately.“We have adequately notified the police, we have done that in accordance with the Public Order Act and they have accepted our day of demonstration. But we have intelligence reports that a group would want to stage a counter demonstration and we would hope that the police would stop them, other than that our internal security apparatus will crush them”.
“Nobody should try and provoke us, it is a peaceful demonstration, well intended and a mass protest that is intended to register our displeasure with the current socio-economic policies of the Mills-Mahama administration.“We will not tolerate any act of sabotage or any group of persons whose intention would be to destabilise the peaceful demonstration and the peace and stability of this country”.
However, members of the Movement for a Better Ghana have called the bluff of AFAG. They insist their demonstration will also take place on Wednesday January 26.
General Secretary of the Movement, Kwesi Ofori Agyemang Boadi told Citi News that the police administration have already provided them with a contingent of police officers adding that all is set for their demonstration on Wednesday.
