Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is becoming increasingly concerned about the form of Michael Essien as the Blues approach the nine days that could define their season.
The Ghana midfielder, who was described by the manager as playing like a new signing, has been struggling with his form over the past two months.
But it has been revealed that a toe injury is what has been limiting the ever-efficient enforcer over the past two months. Essien has been playing through the pain barrier to aid the club with no like-for-like efficient replacement for him which has led to the difficulties he has faced so far.
The sub-par displays of Essien games have conspired to ensure that Chelsea have dropped out of the title frame. Calls are not ringing out for Ancelotti to allow the Ghanaian to fully recover from his injury to enable him to be at his best for the long term benefit of Chelsea.
