Kenya Airways has expanded its European network by launching flights to Rome, Italy.
The latest fourth destination is in addition to London, Paris and Amsterdam destinations. The inaugural flight will be the 53rd global destination for Kenya Airways.
Alongside the opening up of the Rome route, Kenya airways has also announced that it will be resuming flights to Malindi to make it convenient for the majority of tourists headed for holidays at the coast to connect.
Kenya airways will operate the Rome route three times a week and six times a week on the Malindi route. Speaking at the launch, KQ Managing Director Dr Titus Naikuni aid the Italian destination was timely as the country had increasingly become an important source market for tourists to Kenya.
Tourism minister Najib Balala lauded the airline for commencing the service to Rome noting that the direct flights to Italian capital will reduce the time it takes traveling on this route.
The Minister said they projected growth in number of tourists visiting Kenya to reach 90,000 per year. Kenya airways plan to operate the Rome route using a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft and use its mid range Embraer 170 jet on the Malindi route.
