Ghana Athletics Association To Suspend Kofi Samm

Array

The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) is to suspend sprinter Nana Kofi Samm for indiscipline. Samm, a former national 100-metres champion will face the disciplinary rod of the Association for confronting and lambasting Chief Coach, Albert Nukpezah on his exclusion from a particular event during the recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.
The 24-year old was alleged to have challenged the Athletics Chief Coach in full glare on the basis of his omission from one of the track events.
Professor Francis Dodoo, President of the GAA told GNA Sports in Accra that the Executive Committee will decide the extent of punishment for Samm, to serve as a deterrent to others and also to raise the standard of discipline among athletes. The GAA President said his outfit would not tolerate any acts of indiscipline from any athlete in their quest to raise the standard of the sport in the country.
He recalled that Samm and triple jumper Ignatius Gaisah exhibited traits of disrespect in the buildup to the team’s preparation to the Commonwealth Games, but were later spared. Professor Dodoo said the duo refused to lodge with their colleagues at the National Hockey Stadium Hostel due to what they described as the supposed semi-standard of the facility.
Whilst Gaisah apologized after being threatened with a withdrawal of his participation, Samm rescinded his decision before the official notice.
