After guiding Inter to an unprecedented treble in 2009/10, Jose Mourinho is set to be presented as Real Madrid’s new coach on Monday.
While the finer details are yet to emerge, Mourinho has been released from his contract with the Nerazzurri and will now pick up the reins from Manuel Pellegrini with los Blancos.
Joan Gaspart worked with Jose Mourinho during their time together at Barcelona during the late 1990s, and while he admires the Portuguese trainer, he admitted he wishes to see him fail with los Merengues.
“I have a very good relationship with Mourinho and I respect him, but I don’t like him going to Real Madrid and as a result I don’t wish him any success there. Hopefully he will take them into the Segunda Division,” Gaspart told Spanish radio station Ona FM.
“I am fond of him, but as a culé I hope he fails and has a lot of problems in Madrid.”
Gaspart had similar feelings towards Blancos supremo Florentino Perez, and is still bitter about the way in which Real Madrid signed Luis Figo from his Barcelona team in 2000.
“I can forget but not forgive, and one day he will get his comeuppance, although I respect him as a friend and as a businessman,” he mused.
