We Have The Same Mindset We Had In Euro 2008 – Sergio Ramos

As reported by Marca, Sergio Ramos says that Spain have the same mentality now as they did in the days preceding the Euro 2008 championships, when La Roja claimed their

first major trophy in 44 years.

The Spanish right-back declared his team are “calm, tranquil, focused, and with a lot of respect for our rivals”.

Asked about their first opponents Switzerland, Ramos warned that at a tournament like the World Cup, any team is capable of surprising. “We have to think of the first three matches and then we will see. We cannot think of failure and have to be optimistic.”

Upon finding out that Andres Iniesta’s injury was not severe, Ramos and his team-mates expressed their relief. “I knew it was not anything big,” declared striker David Villa.

In the coming hours, Spain will leave Spanish soil for South Africa and the team are enthusiastic about the trip. “We have ambition to begin the World Cup and take on our first match. We have to play with calm and humility,” said Sevilla winger Jesus Navas.

Finally, striker Fernando Llorente expressed his thoughts on how Spain would lift the trophy. “We need to go step by step, match by match.”
