Francesco Flachi’s career is effectively over after he was handed a 12-year ban for a second positive test for cocaine.
The 35-year-old Brescia player will be suspended until January 12, 2022. He previously served a two-year ban, which began in 2007, for a positive cocaine test that ended his career with Sampdoria.
The Italian Olympic Committee stopped short of a lifetime ban, such as that given to former Brescia midfielder Jonathan Bachini for a second positive cocaine test in 2006, although the length of the ban will have a similar effect in Flachi’s case.
