Black Stars Cannot Go Far – Ghana’s Soccer Mogul Herbert Mensah

Ghana cannot go far in the 2010 World Cup due to the absence of midfield general Michael Essien coupled with poor preparation, predicts renowned Ghanaian football

administrator Herbert Mensah.

“Our preparation was not great and we were lynched by the Netherlands. These are not good omens for us,” he told Joy FM.

Mensah added: “Some time ago we had in the team one of the top 10 players in the world, but now we’ve lost him [Michael Essien] to injury.

“I am just assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the team, and I think they will do their best but cannot go far in the tournament.”

The former Asante Kotoko boss said the lack of form of skipper Stephen Appiah, who together with Essien lifted the team’s performance in their maiden World Cup, is another contributing factor to his analysis.

However, he has rallied the entire nation to give the team their full support.

Ghana are group with Serbia, Germany and Australia in the first phase of the tournament.
