2 Top Gov’t Officials Raising Funds To Battle Mills In 2012

A close friend to the Rawlingses, Herbert Mensah says he can identify two influential members of the incumbent government, who are fervently raising funds in the party to contest

President Mills for NDC’S flagbearership during elections in 2012 at the party’s next congress.

According to Mr. Mensah, he’s had conversations with two members of President Mills’ government who are eagerly preparing to contest the President for the NDC’s ticket for election 2012.

In an interview with the host of Metro T.V’s Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere on Tuesday June 8, the former football administrator said he would reveal the names of the people if he’s pushed to the wall.

“For once, I will not mention the names for the time being, members of the party are getting a little more nervous. I may not start mentioning names but there is this one person who is very powerful, we met up in the North and people in the grounds talking about their teams already preparing to campaign in 2012”.

“There is another person who is also a minister of state who is lobbying for large sums of funds to possibly take a position against Professor Mills. I know two close confidants of Prof. Mills who are raising money in the party to run”.

He however denied media reports that he is the brain behind the former first lady’s purported plan to contest President Mills in leading the party for the 2012 elections.

Mr. Herbert Mensah opined that some people in the NDC government believe that there is a leadership vacuum that must be filled. He urged President Mills to do more to make the party repose its confidence in him. “Clearly some people feel there is a vacuum; we’ve seen it at the NPP side. I don’t think in the history of our democracy we have seen an opposition party ready for the challenge immediately after losing election. In less than two years of inter presidency, the NPP are already geared up for that purpose”.

“Within the NDC, as said, there are two or three different groups who are preparing themselves, maybe a lot more quietly because they’ve got the sitting president here. You wouldn’t have that if there wasn’t a perceived vacuum. President Mills himself says he is going to run therefore he needs to provide additional confidence in people”.
