Up-and-coming jazz vocalist Solace is appearing with the Solace Jazz Band in The Basement, Joburg Promusica’s intimate downstairs theatre, on June 6 at 6pm.
Solani Bridgette Maswanganyi, or Solace, as she’s known professionally, is out to etch her name in the history books of jazz and afro pop. She’s been working with a seven-piece band since 2005.
Having studied the theory of music with Unisa, and worked with various private tutors, she upped her game earlier this year by receiving her vocal coaching from renowned muso, RJ Benjamin.
Solace draws her inspiration from giants such as Diana Reeves, Sibongile Khumalo and Miriam Makeba. She’s already been the recipient of a first prize at Unisa for the Best Up-Coming Jazz Vocalist, and also won a 2008-2009 competition run by Puisano.
The Joburg Promusica Theatre complex, situated within the Civic Centre at Florida Park, Roodepoort, offers ample free parking for patrons.
