Dan Botwe Joins Nana

Dan BotweTHE DIRECTOR of Campaign Strategy of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, and Member of Parliament for Okere constituency, Dan Botwe, has openly endorsed

Nana Akufo-Addo as the flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2012 elections.

Dan Botwe’s open endorsement comes at a time the NPP has banned its parliamentarians and officers from openly endorsing the candidature of any of its flag-bearer aspirants.

“Yes, I just said it; I am still in Berekum and I just told a public gathering of party executives from the constituency and polling stations that they should ensure Nana Akufo-Addo leads us to the 2012 elections, so they should give him at least 80 percent of the votes when we meet at the Presidential primaries.

“I told them that we should vote for Nana Addo and I stand by what I said. It is something I would defend always,” Dan Botwe told DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview on Tuesday.

Mr. Botwe is directly in charge of drawing and implementing campaign strategies and tactics for the NPP. Thus, his open support for one of the several flagbearer aspirants is bound to draw some displeasure from the other aspirants.

He told DAILY GUIDE that the fact that he is the NPP’s Director of Campaign Strategy does not necessarily make him an official of the party, thus, nothing prevents him for campaigning to ensure Nana Addo leads the party in 2012.

Dan Botwe was a two-term General Secretary of the NPP and still plays an enviable role among party members.

So far, some five persons, including former Trades Minister; Alan Kyerematen, former Ambassador; Isaac Osei, renowned Surgeon; Frempong Boateng and Chief Executive of the Ghana @50 Secretariat; Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey, have expressed interest in leading the NPP to the Presidential polls in 2012.
