Arsenal Stop Kotoko

Array

KUMASI ASANTE Kotoko broke the hearts of many fans yesterday when they failed woefully to produce their recent fine form under Coach Johnson Smith, falling 2-0 to Berekum

Arsenal at the Golden City Park.

Two fantastic volleys from the boot of Abubakar Ali Saddique shattered Kotoko’s hopes, as it helped the homesters to amass the three valuable points at stake, pushing them into the top four on the league table with 42 points.

Backed by the enthusiastic home fans, Arsenal made their intentions of carrying the day known, immediately proceedings got underway, as they entered Kotoko’s vital area at will.

Arsenal played brilliantly all afternoon especially in midfield, beautifully switching play from defence to attack; but luck eluded them as they squandered the decent chances that came their way in the early stages.

Considering the trend of play,  Arsenal looked the side to fetch the opener and it therefore came as no surprise when the home team deservedly broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time via Abubakar Saddique’s fantastic bicycle kick which can contest for the goal of the season.

Before Kotoko could recover from the shock, Abubakar Saddique, who emerged the best player of the day, put the game beyond them by volleying beautifully from outside the box, beating Isaac Amoako in post for Kotoko.

Then on, Arsenal took total control of the game, as they bombarded the Kotoko goal area with a series of raids; but try as they did, the home team could not add to their tally.

At the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, Defending Champions Hearts of Oak gave a lifeline to their title aspirations when they mercilessly walloped visiting Hasaacas 5-0 to breathe fire on league leaders Ashgold, who drew 1-1 with Olympics at home.

Hearts, who were in top shape, secured the win through a brace each from Tawrick Jibrin and Mahatma Otoo and a goal from in-form striker Samuel Affum to push the visitors further into the relegation zone.

At the Len Clay Stadium, Olympics were cruising towards a vital away win when Frederick Quaison scored from the spot kick to cancel Della Mohammed’s opener.

At the Sekondi Stadium, visiting Kessben FC fought like wounded lions to secure an important 3-2 win over relegation bound Wise in a game which produced a lot of fireworks.
