Reggie Rockstone Steals The Show At GMA

It was a night of glitz and glamour, one that paraded the biggest lounge of celebrities, corporate heads, enthusiastic lovers of music and people from all walks of life.

In what promised to be an exciting night of premium entertainment, the 11th MTN Ghana Music Awards brought the whole nation to a standstill. The event took place at the Dome in the Accra International Conference Center and brought together the crème de la crème of the entertainment industry.

Most patronizers of the biggest event on our Entertainment calendar were anticipating something controversial or unique to add that extra touch to the night as has been the case for the past few years. For most critics it was who won what and who deserved what. The night presented an atmosphere of ecstatic entertainment and a lump of suspense.

What characterized the phenomenal success of the event was clearly demarcated in the splendiferous performances put out by some of the artistes on the bill and the Grand Papa’s benevolence on the night of his birthday.

After being introduced by co-hostess of the night, Doreen Andoh to present award for Hiplife Artiste of the Year, the originator of hiplife walked up stage clad in an “I AM HIPLIFE” customized shirt. The “Tsoi Boi” legend announced his birthday and invited everybody present to his birthmark party the following day, 11th March at his PLUB, Rockstone’s Office.

As if that was not enough he had Jozi extending birthday wishes and to crown it all, Wande Coal stopping halfway through his performance to sing a birthday song for the Hiplife legend. His eminent personality once again stood him out of the lot and this time in a magnanimous way. Celebrating a birthmark, by launching a surprise album on one of the biggest stages and in such splendor was what stole the night.

Earlier the night the “Oseikrom President” had given away 2000 copies of his new album to music enthusiasts who flooded the Conference Center in anticipation of the GMAs to officially launch the album and to mark his birthday.

Reggie Rockstone has been a conspicuous icon in the Music Industry here in Ghana and Africa as a whole for the past decade. For a man to have a 30minute feature on Al-Jazeera by virtue of music is enough to tell his story. He treads in legendary lines and has seen it all.

Coming up with a new album at a time where fresh talents had taken over the market and the Ghanaian populace was hungry for a revolution was a daunting task for a man like him. The expectation on him supersedes that of any ordinary artiste but yet his revolt and talent defends him and stands by as a close advocate.

His album is a complete masterpiece. The symbolic significance of the album titled REGGIE-STRATION is artistically embodied in the album cover which bears an image of a cocoa pod. His profound personality is further adorned in his album cover adding further meaning and clarity to the message the album carries. “The cocoa signifies the HARVEST, I think I am reaping what I have sowed and the harvest has just begun”.
