ACKNOWLEDGING HIS immense contribution to the development of health care delivery in the country, the Ghana Post Company has presented Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital with sample stamps.<\/p>\n
The gesture, according to Kofi Duah-Adonteng, Managing Director of Ghana Post, aims at celebrating human achievements and commemorates significant world events.<\/p>\n
\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cThrough our philately programme, we are able to recognize the contribution of men and women who have contributed to mankind\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s development,\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d he said.<\/p>\n
Aimed at improving health care delivery in the country, the hospital also set up a national plastic and reconstructive surgery unit with a radiotherapy centre.<\/p>\n
Designs on the stamps depict the bi-plane anglography machine at the cardiothoracic centre, the Administrative Block and Prof. Frimpong Boateng, the first black person to perform a heart transplant and masterminded the establishment of the cardiothoracic centre.<\/p>\n
These stamps, he indicated, holds educational, scientific, social and other values.<\/p>\n
Since its establishment in October 1923, Mr. Duah recounted some achievements of the hospital, saying it had provided excellent medical care to majority of Ghanaians and beyond. It had also trained competent doctors, nurses, dentists and laboratory technicians among others.<\/p>\n
However, he noted that while recognizing the pioneering roles of \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cour forebears and other institutions in the development of medical care\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d, all Ghanaians must be motivated by the outstanding laurels of the hospital by contributing to its infrastructural development.<\/p>\n
