Pressure group wants minister designate to apologise to Zita

Nii Afotey Agbo is MP for Kpone-KatamansoPolitical pressure group Alliance for the Advancement of Democracy (AAD) has called on the Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso, Nii Afotey Agbo, to apologise to the Information Minister.

The group says statements the MP and minister nominee earlier made questioning the competence of Mrs Zita Okaikoi are unfortunate and call for an “unqualified apology” to the minister.

The call was contained in a press release issued on Friday and signed by the spokesperson of the group Godwin Tameklo.

The following is the full statement from the AAD

We members of the above mentioned pressure group believing in the deepening of our fledging democracy wish to call on the honorable nominee for minister of state at the Office of the President as a matter of urgency apologize to Honorable Minister of Information Mrs. Zita Okaikoi without fail or we will advise ourselves.

We the members of the group took pain to watch the vetting of the minister designate and wish to state our reservation about comments made by the honorable MP in which he reaffirmed an earlier statement calling for the dismissal of the Minister of Information.

The reason for this call by Honourable Afotey Agbo for her dismissal has to do with the fact that he believes that the minister is “incompetent”; we want to humbly ask the minister nominee to come out with one instance when the minister failed to discharge her duties.

Unfortunately, instead of the Honorable MP giving real and substantial reasons for his call he rather chose to say he has his ears on the ground, this we consider is a very disingenuous way of rumour mongering and to bring the name of the rather hardworking Honorable Minister into disrepute and public ridicule.

We are of the considered opinion that the better Ghana agenda will not be prosecuted by turning the Information Ministry into PROPAGANDA tool for the dissemination of falsehood and a platform for vilification of political opponent, that era is long gone.

The minister together with her team are doing good job which should rather be recommended, the Minister of Information like any other minister in this administration requires constructive criticism to enable the President achieve his better Ghana goal.

We are appealing to the Honourable Afotey Agbo to desist from this destructive attitude as it will not inure to the benefit of anybody and render an unqualified apology to the Honourable Mrs Zita Okaikoi for dragging her name in the mud.

We suggest to Honourable Afotey Agbo to consider the wise saying that, HE WHO LIVES IN GLASS HOUSE DOES NOT THROW STONE. A word to the wise is enough.

We have chosen this option not because we can not also be dirty but we believe that the Honorable is our Member of Parliament representing the good people of Kpone Katamanso, we think they deserve better.

Long live Ghana, Long live our democracy
