Konadu Tipped To Win

Nana Konadu Agyeman RawlingsTHE SECRETARY of Business Supporting Business Association (BSBA), Joseph K. Annang, has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be cautious of the members they select as the party’s executives in the impending National Congress.

The BSBA is an association formed by foot soldiers within the NDC to fight for the betterment of the party.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with DAILY GUIDE yesterday, Mr. Annang said the NDC had been in shambles since it was voted into power early this year.

He lamented that the party currently lacks substantive executives to properly handle its affairs.

Mr. Annang emphasised that had it not been that the NDC does not have competent executives, all the brouhaha between Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and some top NDC government officials over the latter’s comment that the Mills led-administration was lethargic and not assertive on matters bordering the nation could have been easily solved.

He said members of the NDC need to use the impending national congress to appoint and select competent executives who could best address problems facing the party.

In a related development, the BSBA has thrown its weight behind Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, the wife of former President J. J. Rawlings, as she fights for the position of first Vice Chairman in the impending National Congress of the NDC.

According to a release issued in Accra, and signed by BSBA Secretary, Joseph Annang, and the Communication Director of the Association, Bawa Fatal, the BSBA sees Nana Konadu as the best option since she could effectively help address the current internal wrangles in the party.

It said she (Konadu) stands a better position to properly handle the internal issues within the party that could help the party retain political power in 2012.

The release said Nana Konadu had been identified as a best candidate to be nominated as the first Vice Chairman for the party.

It noted that looking at Nana Konadu’s political experience in the country; members of the BSBA in no way doubt that she, when given the mandate, would bring a lot of things on board.

According to the release, the NDC needs people like Nana Konadu at the crucial moment to turn the table round for the next political season, especially 2012.

“Being a mother with a true heart for everybody, we want to assure her that we are solidly behind her bid for the 1st Vice Position”, it said.

The release therefore called on NDC faithful to rally behind Nana Konadu for a total change in the party.

The wife of former President Rawlings has been campaigning for the first Vice Chairman position of the NDC, declaring her intention to contest while on Citi FM, an Accra-based radio station.

According to Nana Konadu, her resolve to contest for the position was as a result of the numerous complaints her office have been receiving from party members who feel left out now that the party is in power.

“I don’t want to put myself in the future, but I believe that my presence at the national office of the party will change a lot of things within the rank and file of the party”, she asserted.

The BSBA is also throwing its weight behind Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, another NDC party member who is fighting for the second Vice Chairman position in the party.
