Lotteries Board Sworn-In A seven-member board has been inaugurated and tasked with the responsibility of supervising and monitoring the operations of the National Lotto Authority (NLA).

The board, which is chaired by Dr. Scali Agodzo, has Kojo Andah, Penelope Mamattah, Hammed Rashid Tunde Ali, Enoch Cobbinah and Alhaji Abdulai Mumuni Bawamia as its members.

The Minister for Finance & Economic Planning, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, who inaugurated the new Board of Directors, administered the oath of office and secrecy to new the new members.

Among other things, the board would be expected to implement the plans and policies of NLA.

It is also expected that members of the board would come up with strategies and measures that would facilitate and maximize revenue generation for developmental projects in the country.

Mr. Duffuor, after inaugurating the board, charged them to speed up the automation processes of NLA in the country.

He called on the board members to “ensure full automation by the first quarter of 2010.”

The Minister lauded the NLA for introducing additional channels for dispensing lottery including automated ticket printing machines and the innovative mobile phone lottery platform.

Ghana is the first country in Africa to introduce lottery gaming on the mobile phone platform.

Dr. Duffuor urged the Board to work with the management of NLA to introduce dividend games in Ghana, adding, “I have no doubt whatsoever in my mind that the dividend games will be the future of lotteries in the country.” 

Dr. Agodzo thanked the President and the Finance Minister for their appointment, pledging to work as a team to make lottery very attractive in Ghana.
