ALEX ASAMOAH’S desire of extending his lead on the goal king chart has been dealt a heavy blow as the prolific goal poacher has been suspended by the technical staff of Kumasi Asante Kotoko for breaching camping regulations.
The former Ashantigold striker was thus ruled out of the Porcupine Warriors’ 28th home week match against Sekondi Hassacas which was rained off on Wednesday. He was actually not in the line-up of the porcupine warriors yesterday.
Asamoah, as at match day 27, topped the goalking chart with 15 goals, followed by Obed Ansah who has 12 goals to his credit.
Asamoah and defender Ofosu Appiah reportedly moved from the team’s camping base without the prior notification of the technical handlers, led by Herbert Addo.
For his punishment also, Ofosu Appiah was also not part of the Kotoko team that pipped Hassacas to overtake Hearts at the summit of the league ladder at the Baba Yara stadium yesterday.
A source, who divulged this to DAILY GUIDE SPORTS, said the move was part of the technical staff’s efforts of instilling discipline in the team, especially at the crucial latter stages of the season.
He was confident that the duo would be allowed to join their colleagues when Kotoko travelled to Obuasi to engage struggling Ashantigold FC in a tricky duel on Sunday.
