Ghanaian hiplife superstar, Kwame Nsiah Appau aka Okyeame Kwame, who took home the Artiste of the Year award at the 10th Ghana Music Awards (GMA) festival held recently, has debunked claims that a number of ladies are jostling to have a love relationship with him.
Okyeame Kwame told BEATWAVES in an interview that the ladies are not chasing him to propose love to him, but because they are in love with his music and stage act.
He said as a married man, he is not interested in going after women but appreciates ladies who love him because of his music.
He noted, “ladies who always follow me around are doing so because they see me as a talented music star. I have always been the ladies’ manâ€Â.
When asked why he always performs with all his strength on stage, he replied, “whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well. That is why I always give my best to whatever I am doingâ€Â.
Okyeame Kwame who will launch his television programme later this year hinted that as part of his social responsibility as Hiplife Artiste of the Year, he would soon organize musical concerts and talk shows in some second cycle institution to educate the students on issues affecting their academic performance.
He said he would use the opportunity to educate students on the need to desist from illicit sex, drugs, drinking of alcohol and smoking as well as other social vices.
When asked whether he planned taking hiplife music to another level, Okyeame responded in the affirmative, adding that he knew he was going to succeed and could come this far.
He stressed that it was by God’s help that “I am where I am todayâ€Â.
Okyeame Kwame, who was happy with the developments so far in the show business in Ghana, told BEATWAVES that he was working tirelessly to win MTV and Channel O music video awards.
He continued that as far as he was concerned, the trend of music in Ghana has changed, saying many could testify that Ghanaian music is progressing and could compete with others on the world music scene.
Also known as the Rap Doctor, Okyeame Kwame is a member of Ghanaian rap duo, Akyeame. Some of his hit songs are Anaa, Hello Maame, Opabeni, Ghana Mmaa, Woani So Anaa, Tutu, Mmre, Mate Ahwe Ne Do Mu, Odo Wo Owuo Akyi a, Te m’ase among others.
He disclosed that after taking home four awards at this year’s GMA – Artiste of the Year, Hip Hop Song of the Year, Hiplife Artist of the Year and Hiphop Artist of the Year – his life has never been the same as opportunities keep coming his way.
Okyeame Kwame has been in the music industry for over seven years now and has four albums in the name of Akyeame and solo albums like ‘Bohye Ba’ among others to his credit.
The award-winner wishes that all his colleagues in the music industry would help to lift Ghanaian music high, rather than focusing on the money they will get.
Aside Kwame’s music, he also has a live-band and directs video clips.
