According to Suddeutschen Zeitung, German giants Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the situation of highly-rated Athletic de Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.
German forward Lukas Podolski will leave the reigning Bundesliga title holders for Koln this summer. Despite having already secured the services of Hamburger SV attacker Ivica Olic, Bayern aren’t done on the transfer market yet.
The recent injury woes up front convinced Bayern that they need to sign at least one more striker in order to be competitive at Champions League level next season.
Therefore, they have targeted Spanish forward Fernando Llorente as a possible addition. The 24-year-old has developed into the absolute star player of Bilbao this campaign and scored eleven goals in 27 league appearances.
It remains to be seen though whether Bayern will succeed in signing the Spanish international. Llorente’s current Athletic Bilbao deal expires in 2011. Additionally, Bayern reportedly face stiff competition from several English and Spanish teams.
