Inter boss Jose Mourinho believes that Manchester United can overcome Porto in the Champions League, despite only drawing the first leg 2-2 at Old Trafford.
Mourinho, of course, was famously in charge of the Portuguese side the last time the two sides met in the competition back in 2004 when Porto ousted United, before going on to claim the trophy.
The Premier League side will need to make history in order to progress, as no English side has ever won in Porto, yet Mourinho has backed United to
succeed.
“How many times have United broken records or beaten the odds?†he told the Sunday Mirror.
“Sir Alex Ferguson is an expert at it, and they have the quality to go and win anywhere in the world.
“Porto have got themselves in a fantastic position and they will be thinking they can get through to the semis.â€Â
The former Chelsea boss also warned his compatriots that the main danger would come from striker Wayne Rooney.
“Wayne Rooney is the boy Porto need to contain. He plays with no fear, and anybody who plays with no fear will never be concerned with how important the occasion is,†he explained.
“Rooney is a big-game player. The crowd at Porto won’t make it easy for United, but the mentality of Rooney is to just play football and not be worried about anything else.â€Â
