IC Quaye Hands Over

IC QuayeSheikh I.C. Quaye, the outgoing Greater Accra Regional Minister has handed over the region’s administration to Nii Armah Ashitey, the incoming minister, at a short ceremony in Accra.

Sheikh I.C. Quaye who is currently the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso Central said transitional arrangements that are made during the change of government should be without acrimony and rancour in order to ensure the development of Ghana’s democracy.

“We are all living witnesses to the beautiful transition that took place in America recently. We are also aware of other bitter experiences in other parts of

Africa. I think it is about time that Africa and for that matter Ghana, travels on that road of true democracy where transitions take place without any problems.”

He said one of his remarkable achievements during his tenure has been the maintenance of peace in the region, especially among the traditional authorities and the religious bodies.

“You may be aware of the numerous conflicts among these bodies which assume alarming proportions especially during the period before the annual Homowo celebrations. However, after several dialogues with the parties and the support of the Regional Security Council, it has been possible to reach some amicable understanding that has ensured the peace to date,” he added.

He thanked the members of staff who made his tenure a memorable one, and urged them to cooperate with the new minister.

The incoming Minister who is also the MP for the Korley Klottey constituency thanked Sheikh I.C Quaye for his hard work and dedication during his 8-year tenure of office.

He indicated he would call on Sheikh I.C. Quaye when faced with any overwhelming problems.

He pointed out that his doors are always open to people who may have concrete solutions to the numerous problems facing the region.

He urged those who cannot come personally, to write proposals and offer solutions “so that together we can all move Greater Accra Region into prosperity and particularly move Accra and the country forward in the right direction.”
