Ataa Ayi In Court Again

Atta AyiARYEE ARYEETEY, alias Ata Ayi, a convicted armed robber currently serving series of jail terms for various offences has been hauled before an Accra Fast Track High Court with three others to answer other robbery charges.

Ataa Ayi, who is appearing before the Fast Track High court for the fourth time on robbery charges, is said to have conspired with his three accomplices – Michael alias Nii Armah, Mohammed Musa Azangbego alias Madi and Prince Isaac Arthur – to rob Capital Refrigerators Company of GH¢1500.

The accused persons, who reportedly snatched the money from one Mr. Sam, have pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery but were remanded to re-appear on February 24, 2009.

Mr. Asiamah Sampong, a State Attorney informed the court presided over by Justice Kwame Asiedu that on July 24, 2004 the complainant, Mr. Sam, visited Barclays Bank at Osu and withdrew GH¢1500 on behalf of Capital Refrigeration Company.

According to him, as he was returning to his workplace he saw a Honda Civic with registration number AS3078 used by the accused persons, following him.

One of the accused persons, the State Attorney, said walked towards the complainant, pushed him down and took the money from him.

When the complainant tried to raise an alarm, the accused pointed a gun he was holding at the complainant, who watched on helpless as they sat in their car and bolted.

The Attorney stated that on August 24, 2004, Michael was arrested by the police after investigations.

During interrogation the accused allegedly admitted the offence and mentioned the names of the others before leading the police to their hideouts to effect their arrest.
