Bayern Munich will likely have to make do without star striker Luca Toni against Koeln next weekend.
The Italian international limped off after just 30 minutes of Bayern’s 2-1 loss away to Hertha Berlin on Saturday, and a subsequent scan confirmed that he is suffering from Achilles tendonitis.
“He’d spent the whole of the previous week hobbling around with an inflamed Achilles. We reduced his training load to compensate,” revealed Bayern boss Jurgen Klinsmann on the club’s official website.
“It was a real shame, because he was so determined going into the match,” added the coach, who acknowledged that Luca Toni’s physical presence in the box is “an important part of our game.”
Should Luca Toni indeed be forced to miss out on the trip to Cologne, it could result in a rare start for Lukas Podolski. Ironically enough this would come against his boyhood team, to whom he has already agreed to return next season.
