Volunteers offer free tuition to school drop outs

About 130 pupils are benefiting from their gestureSixteen graduates from Senior High Schools (SHS) and training colleges at Adeiso, in the West Akim Municipal Assembly, are volunteering free tuition, to school drop outs and junior high school pupils who could not get admission to SHS.

Mr Arku George Best, Chairman of the Volunteers Teachers Association in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said they mooted the idea three years ago in order to help the less privileged pupils in society.

He said from a humble enrolment of two pupils the number had increased to 130.

Mr Best said the Chief of Adeiso, Barimah Asare Oduro II, offered the Association a large plot of land with two abandoned buildings which were renovated for the school.

He said the association provided four additional classrooms and an office block at the total cost of 20,000 Ghana cedis to facilitate teaching and learning, while the Municipal Assembly and other local collaborators also assisted to improve on structures at their disposal.

Mr Best said the education of the children would help them to gain employment in future and contribute their quota to the development of the country.

Mr Peter Mathias Anaglah and Miss Kafui Abla Kumassa co-founders of the institute appealed to the Ghana Education Service, philanthropists and non-governmental organisations to come to their aid
