Minister’s killer strikes again

Minister’s killer strikes again The driver who killed the late Edward Osei Kwaku, former Minister of Sports, has killed another person, less than three years after taking away the life of the former Minister in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Yaw Agyapong, 29, driving an Opel Astra with registration number GW 7554 Y, hit and killed instantly Maame Serwah, a six-year-old girl at Asukokoo near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region on May 1, 2008.

He was subsequently arrested and arraigned on January 14, 2009 where the District Magistrate, Eric Baah Boateng of the Effiduase District Magistrate Court refused to take his plea and remanded him.

The accused would appear before the court on Wednesday January 28, 2009 for judgment.

It would be recalled that Yaw Agyapong, then 25, was driving a Mercedes Benz passenger bus with which he hit and killed the late Osei Kwaku, 62, at the Roman Hill area in Kumasi on September 13, 2005.

Narrating what led to the death of Maame Serwah, Inspector Daniel Gazo, the Prosecutor said on that fateful day, Agyapong was driving the Opel Astra vehicle from Effiduase heading towards Senkyi.

Upon reaching Asukokoo, the accused who was suspected of driving recklessly knocked and killed the deceased instantly, culminating in his arrest by the police, the prosecutor noted.

Inspector Gazo said the accused was granted bail and asked by the police to produce his driver’s license but he refused to comply with the police order and went into hiding.

The police, he noted further, thus intensified their search for him and consequently grabbed Agyapong and arraigned him on January 14, 2009.
