Wigan have signed Egypt international Mido from Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old is set to replace Emile Heskey, who looks to be on the verge of signing for Aston Villa.
Wigan manager Steve Bruce said: “Mido has played for some huge European clubs, where he gained Champions League and Uefa Cup experience.”
Mido, 25, has scored four goals in 13 appearances for struggling Middlesbrough this season.
Latics striker Marlon King moved in the opposite direction on Thursday, signing for Middlesbrough on a six-month loan deal.
Mido becomes the second striker to arrive at the JJB Stadium after the signing of Colombia international Hugo Rodallega for £4.5m.
“Wigan are a club moving in the right direction, who play great football and their league position is no fluke,” said Mido.
