South Africa-based defender Jonathan Mensah is expected to join the Black Satellites on Friday and likely to feature in their last Group A match against host Rwanda at the Africa Youth Championship.
The 18-year-old missed the last two games due to his side’s refusal to release him for the tournament.
Ghana’s central defensive pair of Philip Boampong and Daniel Addo have been far from impressive and conceeded an early goal under 30 seconds in their Group opener against Cameroon.
“The tournament is getting tougher and tougher and we still need more people.we have seven players there and his arrival will mean 18 and an added component to the team,” Sellas told Ghanasoccernet.com
” He joining the team is so important so I believe that we need him in the team.We have about three matches and we need more people to a least complement those people who have tired legs.
Tetteh also believes the arrival of the Free State Stars defender will intensify the competition for slots in the team’s back line.
“I give them a lot of credit because they have played two matches conceeded one goal.
“Although they might be jittry but better still they’re doing very well to protet the goalkeeper and all those things,” he added.
“But I still believe if Jonathan Mensah comes we will still see how maybe his introduction will strenthen them.
“They have done and I will give them the past mark.”
