Otumfuo shaking hands with Akufo-AddoNana Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate in the 2008 general elections has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The eight-member delegation, led by Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Chairman of the 2008 NPP Manifesto Committee and MP for Kwadaso, included Akenten Appiah-Menka, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders, Ashanti Region; Dr. Donkor Fodjour; Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Campaign Director, and the MP for the Zabzugu Talate constituency in the Northern Region.

They held a closed door meeting with the Asantehene.

However, Dr. Afriyie Akoto indicated that Nana Akufo-Addo’s visit to the Manhyia Palace was to show appreciation to Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

He explained also that Nana Addo used the occasion to thank Otumfuo for his support and advice during the presidential race.

Nana Addo, Dr. Akoto said, regarded Otumfuo’s gesture as moral support so he came to thank him as the election was over.

The Asantehene was said to have told Nana Addo that the fact that he did not win the race did not mean that people did not understand him.

He told Nana Akufo-Addo that he did a good campaign and his message was well received by Ghanaians.
However the Asantehene encouraged him to remain committed to his vision of serving his country.
