Ex-Villa boss visits AshGold

GREGORY HAS MORE TO DOFormer Aston Villa boss John Gregory is on a three-week visit at Ghanaian Premier League side AshantiGold in a bid to resurrect their youth academy.

The 54-year-old trip to the Obuasi-based club was facilitated by the its new owners Fortia which took over the club in September last year. Gregory’s coaching experience has stretched from Portsmouth, Plymouth, Wycombe, Derby County and his last job was at Queen Park Rangers all in England.

AshantiGold CEO, Herbert Mensah, said: ” A couple of months we had Pini Zahavi here and he promised to get involved with establishing a youth developing programme here in Ghana based upon talents grabbed the whole of West Africa and that has to be managed by someone.

” John works closely with Pini Zahavi and he’s been here looking at the other things, to see what really is the situation at Obuasi and see if there’s a future in what has been planned.” AshantiGold have already had coaches Ernst Middendorp, Ralf Zumdick and Momo Medic visit the club by providing technical assistance.
