Liverpool Football Club has issued a statement saying it would offer Gerrard “all the support he needs\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d. The 28-year-old was arrested along with five other men near the Lounge Inn in Southport in the early hours of Monday.<\/p>\n
A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital with facial injuries after the alleged incident.<\/p>\n
The football club said: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cSteven has been an outstanding servant to Liverpool for the last 10 years and the club will give him all the support he needs at this time.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<\/p>\n
The Football Association said it would not be making any comment on the Steven Gerrard case other than to stress that his position with England was not under question.<\/p>\n
It added that players will continue to be considered for England while police investigations are on-going, with their situation looked at on a case-by-case basis were they to be convicted of a serious criminal offence.<\/p>\n
John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19, both from Huyton, Liverpool, have also been charged and bailed over the incident.<\/p>\n
All three will appear at North Sefton Magistrates\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 Court on January 23 accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.<\/p>\n
Three other men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
