The eighth-placed outfit were already assured of a place in the end-of-season knockout, but knew that Cajasol – tied with Zaragoza on 18 wins – were unlikely to pick up a victory at Barcelona.

Barca came away with a convincing 88-70 win from that clash, meaning a triumph for Zaragoza against a Murcia side with nothing to play for would have seen them handed the more favourable draw of Valencia.

However, despite the efforts of Pedro Llompart and Jonathan Tabu, Scott Wood inspired Murcia to victory, top-scoring with 17 points.

Real, who have lost just twice this season, now await Zaragoza in the quarter-finals.

The men from the Spanish capital ended the regular season on a high, edging fourth-placed Unicaja 86-83 to finish two wins ahead of Valencia, who suffered a shock 78-73 defeat at Joventut.

Things did not get any better for relegated duo La Bruixa d’Or and Valladolid, though the former went down fighting in a 75-71 loss at home to Tenerife.

The same could not be said, however, for basement club Valladolid, who crumbled to a 92-64 reverse against Gran Canaria, who now face Unicaja.

Laboral Kutxa meet Barcelona in the play-offs after making sure of sixth spot with a 95-77 triumph over Fuenlabrada, while Gipuzkoa defeated Estudiantes 79-71.

In Saturday’s only fixture, Rio Natura Monbus got the better of Bilbao in a 94-92 win.
