d967240283400 25385 Youth Must Not Allow Politicians To Misuse Them Manly SpainThe youth have been encouraged not to allow themselves to be misused by politicians for their selfish ends but to strive for excellence in their daily activities.

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, who gave this advice, said it behoved the youth to secure their future and ignore selfish politicians who did not have the interest of the nation at heart.

He was speaking at the induction service for the new executive members of the Effiduase Circuit Methodist Youth Fellowship at the Effiduase Calvary Methodist Church last Sunday.

The seven-member new executive has Mr Richard Attakora as Chairman, Mr Samuel Appah-Peniel as Secretary, Ms Francisca Baidoo as Assistant Secretary, Mr Philip Omane Yamoah as Vice Chairman, Mr Razak Faisal as Financial Secretary, Ms Vivian Nyarko as Treasurer and Mr Jonathan K. Boampong as an Ex-officio member.

They were inducted by the Diocesan Youth Organiser (DYO) of Koforidua Diocese, Rev. Ekow Ainoo Jnr, who doubles as the Minister-in charge of Ebenezer Methodist Church, Oyoko in the Eastern Region.

Mr Manly-Spain reminded the new executive that their service was a calling and urged the youth to offer their service for the growth of the church both materially and spiritually to receive blessings from God.

He explained that the free Senior High School (SHS) concept was a constitutional provision.

Mr Manly-Spain, who is likely to contest the Greater Accra Regional chairmanship of the NDC, said what was most important was not the question of who initiated the idea but that the concept was good for the country.

He said initially the challenge of the implementation of the concept was access to classrooms and added that with the construction of more community SHSs in the country, the challenge was being resolved.

He called on Ghanaians to not fight for the ownership of the free SHS concept being espoused by President John Dramani Mahama but instead support it for a successful implementation.

In a sermon, Reverend Maxwell Obeng, in-charge of Asokore Bethel Methodist Church, called on the leadership of the church to create opportunities for the youth to take leadership role in the church to gradually take over from the current leadership.
