Central Regional Communications Director for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have urged the Black Stars to go a step further and ‘sacrifice for Mother Ghana’
This was after the Black Stars threatened to boycott today’s match with Portugal if their appearance fees are not paid to them in cash.
In a quick response to their threat, President John Dramani Mahama ordered for $3 million dollars to be transported to the players in Brazil; in cash.
But Allotey Jacobs said on ‘Kokrokoo’ that instead of demanding for their money, the players should have concentrated on the game, sacrifice for the country and put Ghana on a different pedestal.
“They should go one step forward to sacrifice for mother Ghana. If they are able to get to the semi- finals it will boast the country’s image. Their victory can change the Ghanaian dynamics. They need to be patriotic. What they are doing, is for their country; unless they want to tell us that they are not Ghanaians. There are times you die for your country,” he remarked.
Allotey Jacobs also urged Ghanaians to commend President Mahama for his swift response to the Black Star’s request.
“The president should be lauded for making efforts to pay the money and not bastardized. At the end of the day we should pray that there will be peace in the camp.”
He was however, optimistic that the Black Stars will come out victorious and qualify to the next stage of the tournament.
