Woman Killed In Car Crash Just Yards From Where Her Twin Was Killed

A nurse and mother of one was killed in a car crash on Thursday, not far from the place her twin sister died in a hit-and-run in 1996.

Sarah Sanaghan, 29, pulled in front of a semi-tanker on Route 394 near Crete, Ill., at about 5:40 a.m., according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Sanaghan’s Chevrolet Cruze was struck on the right side, and Sanaghan was pronounced dead at 6 a.m, killed by blunt force head trauma.

The truck rolled onto its side and wound up in a ditch, but the truck driver was not seriously injured, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The crash happened about 500 yards from the spot where Sanaghan’s twin sister, Cari, was killed by a hit-and-run driver when she was 11 years old. Cari and three other children had sneaked out of a house during a sleepover and were walking near the road around midnight on May 26. They were struck by a pickup truck. Two other girls, 12-year-old Sheena Acres and 12-year-old Courtney Lauer, were also killed, the Chicago Tribune reported at the time. A 13-year-old boy survived the incident but suffered from broken bones.

“Now [Sarah is] with her sister,” Crete resident Lori Loya, whose son goes to school with Sanaghan’s, told the Chicago Tribue. Loya said Sanaghan was “a beautiful girl. Very upbeat.”
