Tragic Fort Hood Shooting Leaves Three Victims & The Gunman Dead Just Five Years After Fatal 2009 Shooting

fort hood shooting four dead

We just hate news like this.

Unfortunately, we’re having to report that a shooting at Fort Hood yesterday has resulted in four deaths.

The Texas Army post apparently came under attack by a shooter who began firing a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol after walking into one of the buildings. He then got into a vehicle, moved onto another building, and began firing there as well.

Military police confronted him in a parking lot, which resulted in him raising the gun to his head and pulling the trigger.

Three other people died due to his shooting spree, while 16 others were injured.

We are hearing that the gunman served in Irag in 2011, and was now seeking help for depression, anxiety, and other issues. Lt. Gen. Mark A. Milley, senior officer on the base, also reported that he had recently undergone testing to see if he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The gunman was reportedly on medication and had been complaining about returning from Iraq after allegedly suffering a traumatic brain injury. However, military records report that he was never wounded in action.

While this is already a complete tragedy, it stings even more what with Fort Hood’s history. In 2009, a gunman opened fire and killed 13 people and injured more than 30. This became the deadliest attack on a domestic military installation.

President Barack Obama did speak out about the recent shooting:

“They serve with valor, they serve with distinction and when they’re at their home base, they need to feel safe. We don’t yet know what happened tonight, but obviously that sense of safety has been broken once again.”

We sincerely hope that anyone who needs help is able to get help so this doesn’t happen again.

Our thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones in this tragedy and with those recovering from injuries.
