Ellen DeGeneres‘ crowning achievement as Oscars host was undoubtedly breaking Twitter with an impromptu star-studded selfie.
The moment was unscripted (or at least didn’t go as planned) and adorable! But was it AD-orable?
We may not have known it, but we all shared a viral commercial spot for a phone!
The thing you don’t see in the famous photo is the phone used to take it – but on the broadcast, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was right in front of the camera!
According to insiders, Ellen had the idea to take selfies during the show. It was ABC who turned the cute notion into a capital idea, suggesting she use a Samsung phone as they were already planning to sponsor the show.
Execs from Samsung reportedly showed Ellen how to use the device in rehearsals, and the rest is Oscar history – and money in the bank!
Samsung may have paid as much as $18 million in total for the advertising on the show – a hefty price tag that may have been well worth it considering the photo has been shared 3.2 MILLION times already!
Not to mention how much it would have cost if Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Channing Tatum, Julia Roberts, and Lupita Nyong’o knew they were starring in a phone ad!
