A California man was so desperate to get to his court appearance that he allegedly stole a car in order to make it on time.

James Manning was arrested for stealing a 2001 Mitsubishi from a Redding auto dealership and taking it to the Tuolumne County Courthouse.

Sonora police were able to locate the car, which had a different set of license plates on it, after using a GPS tracking device.

Manning’s wife, 45-year-old Teresa Castillo, was spotted at the car and told officers that her 49-year-old husband had bought it earlier in the day for $200.

Castillo and Manning were booked on felony charges of possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance after police discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Manning was appearing in court on a possession of a controlled substance charge.
